Heli Air opens first Scotland base
Heli Air, the UK’s largest onshore helicopter operator, is delighted to announce that following the recent acquisition of Scotia Helicopters, it has now launched Heli Air Scotland, based at Cumbernauld Airport midway between Glasgow and Edinburgh. Heli Air now has nine bases across the UK, including the recently opened operation at City Airport & Heliport, Manchester, and can claim to be the UK’s only truly national helicopter business.
Under the terms of the sale agreement, Heli Air has acquired two Robinson R44s and an R22 and, in preparation for a planned expansion of charter work as well as training will introduce a Bell 206 very soon and the R66 Turbine immediately following EASA certification. Flight and maintenance operations will be moving to a dedicated hangar at the airport with adjacent office space.
Capt. Lloyd Whyman, formerly of Scotia Helicopters, has been appointed Base Manager and will continue to act as the site’s main instructor/examiner. Commercial Director Charles Stewart brings a wealth of business experience to Heli Air Scotland as does Carly Matheson who was Heli Air’s Base Manager at the London-Denham base for three years prior to moving to St Andrews in Scotland.
Charles McCann, Managing Director of Heli Air Scotland, who also flies his own R66 commented: “Having our base at Cumbernauld gives us a foothold close to the central Scotland motorway network and puts us in an excellent position to cater to the growing VIP charter market. With the Ryder Cup and the Commonwealth Games coming up next year, we see great potential.”
Heli Air Scotland is now open for business and will have an official Open Day early in 2014.
