Richard Mornington-Sanford to present flight safety seminar

“Flight safety is no accident” proclaims Richard Mornington-Sanford, Accident/Technical investigator for Robinson Helicopters and owner of Mornington Sanford Aviation, an EASA, and UK.CAA Part 147 Type Training School for the Robinson stable and their respective engines. Richard will be joining RotorTech’s seminar programme as a guest speaker.

A CAA-licensed helicopter engineer, a retired flight instructor who still conducts and teaches flight testing and an active air accident/technical investigator, Richard’s understanding and expertise of the Robinson product is certainly extensive. With over 40 years of Robinson experience under his belt – including as a Part 66 Licensed Engineer, Flight Safety Course Instructor, RHC Factory-Approved Maintenance Course Instructor, and engineering specialist “for a worldwide client base” – Richard will be sharing his “unrivalled experience outside of the factory on the Robinson product” in his upcoming presentation, titled ‘Helicopter Limitations’.

A passionate advocate for flight safety, who states that ‘Knowledge is Flight Safety helping to keep your RPM in the Green’, Richard will be detailing “how the helicopter manufacturer calculates power and drive train limitations and the effects of exceeding them,” drawing on his technical training as well as his charismatic public speaking skills.

Richard’s blog, a personal platform entitled ‘Keep Your RPM In The Green’, contains his informative ‘Tea and Biscuit’ articles; conceived during the Covid-19 lockdown with the purpose of furthering flight safety discussions.

This blog notes that Robinson themselves have enjoyed over a decade with no fatal accidents in the UK – something Richard puts down to “the dedication and training standards of the instructors, the very high standard of maintenance, and the increasing realization of pilots that they are actually mortal.” He adds his thanks for everyone “keeping me unemployed as an RHC accident investigator. Please keep up the brilliant work”.
